To the Student

Once a week each student is invited to write one entry. The topic is of your choice, but should be meaningful and respecting ethical values.
Did you have a good or bad day at school? Write about it. If you don't want to write about yourself, write about a rainy day, the streets of Istanbul or a famous person. These are just examples, of course. Feel free to express yourself!

Indifferent Attitude

You may ask yourself what this means. It means not to care or not to be interested in something. This is the general attitude among my students towards school, their grades or "promises" they make to their teachers. I shall be more specific: students on scholarships (meant to be especially promising students) fail because they don't do their work; others only do as much as needed to pass the class; others again ask teachers for extra time or postponement of portfolio meetings and then just don't do their assignment or just don't show up at the time agreed. Where is the motivation to achieve something great? Where is the ambition to get the most out of the year? And is there anybody how wants to make the difference? Students think they do good telling their teachers, "Sorry, can I hand in my work tomorrow?" and than still don't. There is nothing good with that. You do it or you don't - period. That's how I prefer it, without empty promises. The youth is meant to be the future of a country - that's what everybody knows. Be it!

TACHIYOMI ( 立ち読み ) - 2

Hello Everybody,When you fly or use other vehicles to a place for any reasons, you might immediately notice that those who read the most are Japanese, Americans and Europeans. The rest, which is from the third group,is not worth of mentioning.( Especially trash reading people...) Reading level can be measured by paper consuming. Let's have a look at the amount of paper per-capita in some countries:
Units: kilograms/person/year 2005
Finland FIN 324.97
United States USA 297.05
Japan JPN 233.55
Germany DEU 231.65
Netherlands NLD 227.38
Sweden SWE 219.98
Italy ITA 205.71
United Kingdom GBR 201.20
Malaysia MYS 114.78
Greece GRC 105.29
South Africa ZAF 69.01
Saudi Arabia SAU 41.80
Turkey TUR 27.30

The average European uses 130 kilos of paper a year-the equivalent of two trees. The average American uses more than twice as much - a staggering 330 kilos a year.(297.05 kg in 2005) What do these figures show us??? I hope you grasp the importance of reading... Of course, I do not imply that wasting is a nice thing!!! Never waste anything! For other figures use the link below:
